Our Story - Baking Since 1950

Stella was the charge hand for Aspin’s Bakery in 1950. After marriage and starting a family, she began making cakes from home. How she made such elaborate and intricate designs on her cakes from her small kitchen was a skill in itself!

There was rarely a time when visiting Grandma’s, that she wasn’t preparing for or making a Wedding or Celebration cake, or even just making treats like egg custards for the family (Grandad’s little joke). Stephen started his baking career, working for a local family bakery. He quickly realised that he had the skills, passion (wonder where that came from?) and drive to have his own wholesale bakery. Alongside a business partner Stephen began his journey. Starting with a small oven, a roller and bags of passion they quickly became well known and grew considerably.

Robert also began working for the bakery on weekends before starting full time after leaving school. In 2011, circumstances for the family changed. You can take the man out of the bakery….. but you can’t take the bakery out of the man!

In 2014, Robert started ‘The Moorings Bakery’. Following in his fathers footsteps, he began trading from a unit with only basic equipment and a staff team of 3. Business grew organically when word spread about the new bakery in town!

Hannah, finally gave in and joined the empire in 2022. Using her previous experiences she has helped direct the company to grow bigger and better whilst still retaining our core values. Now the family are all together their joint passions and skills will mean that they will pave the best path for the 4th generation!
